My Nan with two of her daughters, Barb and Pam.

Opening a Can of Worms.

It all started in August 2012. I was visiting my family in the UK and staying with my Son. We got around to talking about our family and that we really knew nothing at all about our origins or indeed our ancestors.

The oldest ancestor I knew was my Nan (Grand mother to you non UK people) pictured far right.

I knew where she was from, her name ( or so I thought) and when she died. We created an Ancestry.co.uk account and began to plug in everything we knew, which wasn't much. I soon found out my Nan 3 last names throughout her life. She was born Elizabeth Sarah Newman on December 7th 1907 in Bromley Kent. I knew when she died so I entered that info also, June 1980. I then entered the names of all of her children, that I knew of. mmh, if you've ever used Ancestry before you'll know that when in formation is found about someone you've entered, a little green leaf waves on their name. Nothing!

From my mum's birth certificate, I found out that she was married in 1933 to George Henry Capon. It was when I entered this piece of info that the little green leaves started to appear. Bingo!!

More to come soon.......
